At the farewell party held at Meadowbrook Day Care Centre back at the beginning of the month for residential users of the centre, we caught up the Harry Kirby, the parent of a client at Meadowbrook.
Harry was clearly concerned for the future of his son’s care and talked to us about the situation and what impact it’ll have on his family.
As we’ve heard before, the council say that the funding for daytime activites for those in residential care is already paid to the residential homes, so they cannot afford to pay twice for the extra activities.
Alternatives unclear
Mr Kirby told us that the feeling amongst parents is that no-one really knows what choice there is going to be once the centres are closed.
As has been said before by others, users of the centres need time to become accustomed to changes, and he didn’t believe that the local authority realises the impact the dramatic changes will have on both carers and the users of the day centres.
He went on to say that he felt that the officers of the council were working simply to justify the will of their political masters.
