Just over a week ago, VB was invited to a leaving party at Meadowbrook Day Centre in Ryde.
The party was being held for those in residential care who visit the day centre to take part in a wide variety of activities.
The parents of users of the centre had been informed the week before that their offspring would no longer be taken to the day centre, but would instead, have their needs met by the residential care homes.
We spoke with several people at the party, this being the first in a series of podcasts featuring the concerns of several parents.
Parents talked of the fantastic social life that the day centre provides for those attending and how a lack of these services will affect their offspring.
One mother of an autistic son explained the implications of the new Autistic Act which will require LGA to provide care as needed by autistic adults (18+) and many parents were prepared to speak out about their experiences so far and dissatisfaction with the way the whole process has been handled.
