This summer marks a major milestone for Medina Community Choir as it celebrates its 20th anniversary year with three July concerts on the Island and an eagerly anticipated return to France for its eighth overseas tour.
Founded in 2006 by Isle of Wight Community Champion Hannah Brear, the choir has grown from modest beginnings into one of the Island’s most vibrant and successful community music groups, bringing together singers of all ages and backgrounds through a shared love of music.
The first two “Celebrating 20 Years” concerts feature an uplifting and varied programme of all-time choir favourites, ranging from classical works by composers such as Eric Whitacre and John Rutter, to iconic works from stage and screen, to rock and pop hits by artists like Queen, Madonna, Lionel Richie and Toto.
Two anniversary concerts across the Island this July
Audiences can enjoy performances at the Minster, Newport on Saturday 4th July and at St Mary’s Church, Cowes on Saturday 11th July, both 7pm.
An eighth tour to France and three Paris cathedrals
Later in the summer, the choir will embark on its eighth tour to France, where members will have the privilege of singing in three magnificent cathedrals in Paris, continuing a tradition of international performances from Carnegie Hall in New York to Le Mans Cathedral in France, that has become a highlight of the choir’s calendar.
Gospel Gold concert to close the summer programme
Before departing, Medina Community Choir will present a special pre-tour “Gospel Gold” concert at St Mary’s Church, Cowes on Saturday 25th July at 7pm, promising an evening of inspiring music and infectious energy.
Two decades of community, charity and musical ambition
Over the past two decades, the choir has built a reputation for music excellence, community spirit and memorable performances, while raising thousands of pounds for local charities and providing a welcoming environment and an enviable music platform for singers across the Isle of Wight.
