We’ve been raving on about Mike’s work ever since we first saw his magnificent swans at Shopping Trolley in October 2005.
Isle of Wight born artist Michael Forrest, 28, studied at Camberwell College Of Arts, London, graduating with a 2:1 BA (Hons) Degree in Graphic Design and was selected as a talent of the year 2001 in i-D Magazine, in a feature entitled ‘The Graduates’.
He’s certainly one for picking up the accolades, having been voted Student of the Year 1998, during his foundation course at Kingston University.
Whilst at college and since that time, he has exhibited his artwork both 2D and sculptural in many exhibitions, culminating last year with his first solo show at the Quay Arts Centre.
You might remember reading about the Arts & Business commission which lead to Michael creating The Catch, which is on permanent display in East Cowes. It’s a fantastic triptych in vitreous enamel.
Michael’s work is of a contemporary graphic nature, focusing on the natural world using both vinyl based paints and enamel on steel. The end result is bold and commanding yet subtle, displaying the beauty and power of the subjects found in the natural world.
Michael tells us
When I’m not creating artwork on the land, I enjoy drawing more lines in the surf, a passion that has grown since I was a nipper. A glorious union between human design and nature flowing harmoniously.
He swears that he’s not a hippy.
Come and make your judgement over this weekend (23-24 Feb) between noon and 4pm at the Bonchurch Manor Hotel.
