Tonight sees an opportunity for Island residents to share their opinions on the proposed development at the Mill Bay on Ventnor Esplanade, before the Ventnor Town Council make their decision on the application.
Plans for the development (the subject of our earlier article on the legitimacy of artist’s impressions) show three, 3-storey ‘town houses’, an extension to the pub and a 4-storey block of flats.
Metropole resident owner objects
Whilst looking through the comments left on the Isle of Wight council Website today, between some supportive letters, we came across a pretty strong letter of objection to the development, surprisingly from a resident of the adjacent Metropole building.
Neil Summers, who owns one of the flats in The Metropole, starts his comment by saying “Let’s face it……………… the Metropole development is a disgrace! It should never have been built.”
Readers will probably already realise that The Metropole was approved prior to the Esplanade becoming a Conservation Area.
Describing the Metropole as “nothing but a big oversized eyesore, that jars the eye, that leaves everyone asking, ‘ who allowed that to be built?'”
Mr Summers goes on to say what many others have said in the past, that outside the tourist season, much of The Metropole is empty, therefore questioning why more flats are needed.
Your chance to comment before 11th June
With just a few days left to leave comments, the number of those writing in with support or in objection to the development is growing, but tonight sees an opportunity to share your views, for or against the development with the Ventnor Town Council.
They will be considering the application and making their decision tonight prior to the 11th June cut off for comments.
From 5:30pm tonight
Ventnor Town Council has made special arrangement to have the proposed plans for the Mill Bay laid out at 5:30pm tonight, so people who haven’t seen them can get a proper look at them.
Otherwise you can go along to the main meeting from 6pm at the Winter Gardens, or add your comment on the application by visiting the IWC Website.
