Cowes Week Fireworks Paid For By Donor. Donations Sought For Safety Bill

The fireworks during Cowes Week, previously in question due to a lack of funding, have found an anonymous donor.

Speaking to the people at Cowes Week, they maintained the public mystery only saying that the person who paid for the fireworks had “enjoyed the fireworks over the years and wanted to contribute.” Jolly good of them too.

More money still needed
While the things that go whizz bang shooting into the sky have been paid for, the cost of the policing and arranging the safety infrastructure for the display has still to be met.

The total amount for this is around £25,000, but thanks to the some businesses having already pledged a large amount, the amount outstanding has been reduced to around £8,000 – £10,000.

If everyone who goes to the fireworks just put a pound in, there would be enough money, so the organisers are urging fireworks fans to make a donation securely via Paypal. Any surplus funds will contribute towards the 2011 display.

When is it planned for?
The display is arranged to take place on Friday 6 August at 21:30. The details, as ever are up on Events On The Wight.
