Over 100 objections have been filed against plans for new double yellow lines in Gunville on the Isle of Wight.
A proposed Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) for parts of Forest Hills, Arthur Moody Drive, Broadwood Lane and Park Close is due to be ruled on by the Economy, Regeneration, Transport and Infrastructure Committee (ERTIC).
Decision deferred in March
In March, the panel decided to defer a decision on the ‘No Waiting at Any Time’ parking restrictions after advice from the local authority’s monitoring officer, Christopher Potter.
He said councillors did not have all the relevant information in front of them.
Safety case rests on new homes
The proposal set for a vote next Thursday (3rd September 2026) aims to ensure safety for all road users, while securing the movement of the increased traffic to and from a new 36-home development once it is built.
Plans are based on an 22nd October 2025 conditional permission for the estate on land west of Forest Hills and Arthur Moody Drive which requires possible highway safety implications to be mitigated through a TRO.
What the report recommends
The report says,
“The recommendation is to approve the proposed TRO on grounds of safety, as a safety risk on the highway has been identified – if/once the development is built.
“According to the planning permission this issue needs to be addressed prior to the building works commencing.”
During a consultation period on the TRO, 114 valid representations were received by the council.
One of these supported the Forest Hills and Broadwood Lane proposals and two backed the rest of the plans but all others objected to the TRO.
Parking loss the main concern
Objections’ grounds included loss of on-street parking space, a potential speed increase due to a lack of obstacles and there being no historic or present safety issues.

ERTIC will meet at County Hall on Thursday, 3rd September 2026 at 5pm.
