Island MP Andrew Turner is, we hear, today leading a debate in Westminster Hall discussing the pros and cons of reducing/normalising the size of the voting constituencies around the UK – something his party, the Conservatives, are rather keen on.
As VB reported back in May Andrew is against the idea of dividing up the Island, potentially leading to the Island having two MPs, which would happen if Conservative plans go ahead, given that the Island’s constituency has the largest numbers of voters in the UK.
In the House
Last week Prime Minister, David Cameron, was using the size of the Island’s constituency – currently around 110,000 – as an example in the House of Commons, of why constituencies should be reduced in size, labelling the number that Mr Turner has to represent as, “simply not fair.”
We await the outcome with interest.
We contacted his office for a comment this morning, but haven’t at time of publishing heard back.
