Much-Delayed Island Plan Core Strategy A Step Closer

The Council is finally getting close to having their Island Plan Core Strategy accepted.

Isle of WightIt’s the replacement for its previous Unitary Development Plan (UDP) – defining what should be developed where on the Isle of Wight.

Previous attempts rejected by Planning Inspectorate
Getting to this point has been a far-from-smooth ride, taking many failed attempts by the council’s Planning department over many years, with the Planning Inspectorate rejecting the council’s previous submissions.

To get an idea of quite how long – way back in October 2009, the County Press was describing it as “already much-delayed” and that, even then, it was “nearly a year late.”

A year later, October 2010, the CP reported that the “much-delayed document” was about to “go out to consultation.”

A further year on and finally the adoption of the Island Plan Core Strategy goes on to the council’s Forward Plan.

The senior council staff responsible
The process has been co-ordinated by the council’s Head of planning, Bill Murphy, under the ultimate oversight of Stuart Love, who most recently oversaw the much-criticised distribution of wheelie bins on the Island.
