Great news in from Nat on behalf of Ryde Academy. Ed

Ryde Academy has been chosen as the flagship school on the Island to benefit from the £4.4 billion Priority School Building Programme (PSBP).

“We are delighted to confirm that Ryde Academy was selected under the first phase of the Department for Education’s PSBP to benefit from a multi million pound new school building on the existing site, with a student capacity of 1,500.”

The project will be managed on behalf of the Secretary of State for Education by the Education Funding Agency (EFA), which is an executive agency of the Department for Education.

New Principal, Joy Ballard, said

“We are so excited to have been chosen for this project. The new building will help us to provide our students with an outstanding curriculum fit for the 21st century and enable us to take ambitious steps into the future.”

A feasibility study has been completed and the design process has started in consultation with the Academy. The new building will be constructed on the existing site while the Academy remains in operation. Minimal disruption and health & safety considerations will be paramount in deciding the best location for the new building.

The project will need to obtain planning permission and there will be opportunities for public consultation early in 2016.
