National Heritage Open Days: Celebrate Newport’s rich history with new free festival

On Saturday 7th September a new free festival comes to Newport as part of the National Heritage Open Days Scheme to celebrate the heritage of the Island’s county town.

The whole town is getting involved with shop owners discovering the history of their shops and creating window displays to reflect their findings.

What to see
The Masonic Club and St John’s Church will be open for guided tours.

64 High Street will be open with an exhibition about the First Newport Scouts and the Museum of Island History will be open for free.

The Classic Motor Show will have hundreds of classic vehicles on show on Newport Quay.

Creative activities
Newport Minster will have creative activities with artist Trudie Wilson, IWC Archaeology team and Finds Liaison Officer will be bringing some items from Newport’s History.

Family history
Unity Hall, IW Family History Society and CWGC will be there to help you discover your own historical connections.
