NatWest Island Games: Take Part In Opening Ceremony

The NatWest Island Games will be upon us in less than four weeks and we understand that volunteers are still needed for the opening ceremony. Ed

Opening ceremonyThe formal Opening Ceremony for the NatWest Island Games will be performed at Quay Road, Ryde, on Saturday 25 June in front of 3200 athletes from around the world, 200 special guests hopefully including Lord Coe and over 100 press and TV crews.

The New Carnival Company is working with groups of young adults to stage a 20 minute piece of processional theatre entitled ‘An Island in its True Colours’.

Recruiting 13-25 year old volunteers
We are now recruiting additional young people aged 13 to 25 yrs to form a troupe of flag bearers / wavers / dancers who will accompany and enhance the overall performance.

The flag team will be costumed and work with large silk flags. They will need to be able to work quickly, changing flag colours and moving on, off and behind the main stage.

Rehearsals are:

  • At the Carnival Learning Centre on 2nd 3rd 4th June 10.30 – 2.00 (Half Term)
  • At Sandown High School Sunday 5th June 10.30 – 2.00
  • On site at Quay Road Sunday 19th June time tbc
  • On site at Quay Road Friday 24th June 4-7 ish for technical rehearsal. Exact times tbc
  • On site at Quay Road Saturday 25th June 10 – 12 for full dress rehearsal

We know everyone probably can’t make every rehearsal, but most need to be attended especially the last three! Enthusiasm and commitment are what counts.

Go on – give it a go!
