New ‘affordable’ three-bedroom flat proposed in Ryde for local housing needs

An ‘affordable’ three-bedroom flat could be built in the heart of the Isle of Wight’s largest town.

Standley Property Ltd is seeking to construct an additional floor at 119 High Street in Ryde which would allow the creation a ‘mansard style self-contained flat’.

The proposed unit would be available to rent as ‘market housing’, according to submitted Design and Access Statement. A separate Planning Statement says,

“The proposal utilises the opportunity to construct an additional floor like the site opposite (116-118 High Street) which has been granted planning for a similar arrangement.

“This proposal will aid the Island in meeting the stipulated housing target as set out in the current Island Plan.

“The proposal in creating this additional dwelling will be achieved without disturbing the existing fabric of the building and with limited impact on the surrounding area.

“The dwelling will have the benefit of convenient shopping close by allied with adjacent public transport giving an alternative to the use of a motor vehicle.”

The public consultation runs until until 9th June and a decision should be made by 1st July 2025.
