Boojum and Snark, Sandown’s bar and pico-brewery, opens its doors to visitors on Saturday 4th September between 5pm-7pm to celebrate the work of their resident artist projects, SPHERE by Sapphire Goss and SPLICE by Teresa Grimaldi.
SPHERE by Sapphire Goss
Sapphire is an artist who works with moving image, photography and other lens-based methods.
She creates chimerical collages using unexpected materials and obsolete technologies to make an ‘analogue uncanny’: grainy, shimmering, otherworldly work that grows, decays and lives beyond the surface of the image.

In the SPHERE residency she explored the landscape of Sandown Bay through different strata of time: from the deep time of the night sky, the fossilised and petrified geological layers to human history to natural cycles of seasons, growth and decay.

SPLICE by Teresa Grimaldi
Teresa is a visual artist widely regarded for her puppetry and installation work. Her practice naturally gravitates towards collage, collecting and blending multiple media.
SPLICE is a new collaged short film featuring cultural icons of Sandown including the big cats of the Bay, B&B ephemera, and cups of tea to expand the modern mythology of the seaside town.

The projects have been made possible with the support of an Arts Council England grant.
