The long battle for Electric Vehicle (EV) owners who rely on public charging points on the Isle of Wight continues.
Back in May, following months of delay to the installation of EV charge points around the Island, both on-street and off-street, the Isle of Wight council said they hoped EV charge points planned for 13 council car parks were due to be online by summer 2022.
Abandoned “charge points”
Given that, Ventnor residents have been left somewhat frustrated to see the installation of two EV charge points in Ventnor’s central car park seemingly abandoned.
Steve Jones contacted News OnTheWight to say that work was started on the charge points about five weeks ago, but as can be seen from his photos, one of the charge points is just a leaf-filled hole with abandoned bolts, bare wires and bits of smashed tarmac. The other remains unfinished.
Steve said,
“They spent a couple of weeks digging up the parking bays to install the electricity cables to each charging point.
“We do actually want charging infrastructure, now they’re disintegrating!”
Due to be installed summer 2022
According to the council’s own Website, that the off-street EV charge points planned for 13 council car parks are due to:
“… be installed in our car parks during summer 2022.”
News OnTheWight has asked the council what’s happening with these charge points and will update once we get a response.
