The Isle of Wight Dementia Roadmap is a Web-based platform that provides high quality information about the dementia journey alongside local information about services, support groups and care pathways.

The stages of Dementia
Dementia describes a set of symptoms that may include memory loss and difficulties with thinking, problem-solving or language. It is caused when the brain is damaged by diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease or a series of strokes or can be associated with other conditions such as Parkinson’s disease or Down’s Syndrome.

Viewing dementia as a series of stages can be a useful way to understand the progression of the condition, while appreciating that each individual will experience dementia in a different way.

Easily accessible information
The roadmap is a place where healthcare professionals, people with dementia, their carers and family members can go to find information on dementia and the services available on the island. The roadmap will also benefit staff working in primary care, including GPs, nurses, dementia navigators and practice managers, other professional and people worried about memory problems.

The Isle of Wight Clinical Commissioning Group is launching the Dementia Roadmap.

Speaking on behalf of the Clinical Commissioning Group, Dr Michelle Legg, the Clinical Lead for Dementia said:

“The consultation for the Islands dementia strategy highlighted that there are a lot of great initiatives and services on the Island to support people living with dementia delivered by public, private and voluntary organisations. Residents and healthcare professionals asked for there to be a central place that holds all this information. The dementia roadmap has enabled us to collate all the information and groups on one website and we look forward to the content on the site growing as more organisations share their information and activities.”
