New Red Jet Set To Join The Fleet

Red Jet passengers can look forward to a new vessel joining the fleet this July.

Regular users of the Red Funnel hi-speed service, Red Jet will be pleased to hear that very soon they’ll be travelling on a super duper new Red Jet vessel.

New Red Jet Set To Join The FleetThe new Red Jet, which arrives in the UK at the end of May and will be ready for service by July, has set the company back £2m and we hear, sports air conditioning and a brand new interior (we’ll have an artist impression following in the next week).

James Fulford, Red Funnel CEO comments “We were extremely fortunate that this vessel came on to the market at the same time a buyer approached us for Red Jet’s 1 and 2.

“The new craft will offer a superior travel environment and is ideally suited for service in the Solent. The additional passenger capacity will also put an end to occasional shut-outs when either Red Jet 3 or 4 are undergoing maintenance.”

Those who haven’t been on the Island long might not realise that Red Funnel was the pioneer of cross-Solent high speed ferry services, with services dating back as far as 1933.

You can watch videos on their history over on the Red Funnel Web site.

Interesting photo of new RedJet capability to carry twice as many passengers across the solent:

I suspect some modifications may be required to the pontoons to ease disembarkation. Crossing time may be greater than 23 minutes too.
