Isle of Wight Chief Inspector Nick Heelan is set to take on a new role as Detective Chief Inspector for the Professional Standards Department (PSD) based at Winchester Police Headquarters.
Mr Heelan has served the majority of his policing career on the Island after joining Hampshire Constabulary in 1996. He served initially at Basingstoke before transferring to Shanklin, on the Isle of Wight in 1998, where he performed a variety of uniformed and detective roles, up to the rank of Chief Inspector.
Heading a team of investigators
Mr Heelan’s new post sees him take on responsibility for heading a team of investigators including the Anti-Corruption Unit.
“The PSD provide a quality of service for members of the public. It will be my job to manage investigations into complaints that have been made about police officers, police staff or special constables. This can range from a minor grievance up to allegations of serious corruption.
“I am looking forward to this new challenge immensely and I will continue to ensure we deliver a first class service putting victims at the heart of everything we do and by learning from any mistakes we make.”
Mr Heelan will take up his new role with PSD on Thursday, May 23. Chief inspector Julie Fry will take over from Mr Heelan on Tuesday, May 28.
