Independent Isle of Wight publisher Lemon Jelly Press is delighted to announce the signing of local author Lizzie Thomas.
Her new short story collection, The Wightfolk Tales, will be published on 12th December 2026.
Ten tales rooted in Island folklore
Inspired by Isle of Wight folklore, local ghost stories and the Island’s distinctive landscape, the collection brings together ten haunting tales.
Written predominantly for a young adult audience, the stories will also appeal to adults who enjoy folklore, historical mysteries and fiction with a dark, magical edge.
Dragons, mermaids and old legends
Moving between different periods of Island history, the collection explores friendship, courage, love, freedom and the dangers of ignoring old warnings. Its stories feature mysterious creatures, singing mermaids, enchanted gardens, ghosts, dragons and figures drawn from local legend.
Familiar Island settings are transformed into places where the past remains close and something strange may be waiting just beyond the light.
Lizzie Thomas said,
“I have always been fascinated by the history of the Isle of Wight. I loved choosing iconic Island locations and imagining the stories that might be hidden behind them.
“The tales are haunting, spooky and mystical, and I hope they encourage readers to look at familiar places a little differently.”
