New town centre semi-detached houses proposed for brownfield site

A brownfield site in an Isle of Wight town centre could be redeveloped with two new semi-detached houses.

Mr P. Dempsey has submitted revised plans to County Hall for the construction of two two-bedroomed properties at 11 – 13 Scarrots Lane, Newport.

The homes are classed as ‘market housing’, according to his application form.

Vacant site
A statement prepared by the Andrew White Planning Consultancy says,

“The site is a vacant site located on the south side of Scarrots Lane which is a narrow lane leading from St James Square to the east of the site and New Street to the west.

“The character of the location is a mixture of commercial and residential uses, with warehouses, small scale workshops, shopfronts, flats and terraced housing.

“The proposed two units will make a contribution to the overall housing delivery on the Isle of Wight, providing the type of housing development identified as needed.”

It states that the proposed design complements and enhances the character and surroundings of the designated conservation area.
