Newchurch Jubilee events raise £800 for Ukraine Appeal

A cheque for £800 has been presented to Victoria Dunford of MAD-Aid for its Ukraine appeal by Newchurch residents.

At the recent Big Jubilee Lunch, which was organised by Newchurch Parish Council and All Saints church, £400 was donated by those partaking of the free refreshments.

Goddards and Yates breweries generously provided a firkin of beer each, and condiments were given by The Garlic Farm to complement the buffet supplied by the Parish Council.

Plant sale and concert
A further £200 was raised by Newchurch Horticultural Society through sales of plants, and All Saints Church contributed an additional £200 as part of the proceeds from a Jubilee concert in the church by Newchurch Male Voice Choir.

Residents from all corners of the Parish took part
The Parish Council’s Chairman, Roy Bevan, said,

“The Big Jubilee Lunch gave an opportunity for all residents of Newchurch Parish to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee together.

“Given the huge effort made by the team of Councillors assisted by family and friends to distribute flyers and prepare the buffet, we were delighted that residents from all corners of the Parish, from Apse Manor to Knighton and from Whiteley Bank to Mersley, were in attendance.

“All involved were very pleased to be able to raise funds for such a worthy cause as the East Cowes-based MAD-Aid Ukraine appeal and surplus food from the buffet was passed to the local Food Bank and the Salvation Army.”
