Thanks for Bob for sharing this latest news. Ed
Every year members of the Newchurch Male Voice Choir, being the oldest male voice choir on the Island, select a charity to give their support to during the year.
For 2016, we are supporting The Martin Poynter Trust, and this will be done by us donating the profits we make on the various concerts we provide during the year.
The Choir members get much pleasure out of singing, and in giving the concerts we present that pleasure to our audiences and at the same time raise monies for the charities.
Why we chose this charity
Strokes are a real risk to society, especially to the older generation, which is one of the reasons The Martin Poynter Trust has been chosen. Their work, in conjunction with The Stroke Association, in promoting the prompt action needed if a stroke occurs, the ongoing research into causes and treatment of strokes, and the aftercare of victims is a matter close to our members hearts.
Bob Cooper, the Choir’s Publicity Officer said,
“Many of us knew Martin before he was taken from us by a stroke. He was a man who, through his work in the community with the Fire Service, and with West Wight Swimming Club gave pleasure and reassurance to many children and families.
“The Choir wants to show our gratitude for his work and that being undertaken in his name. We trust that our concerts this year will help to raise much needed money for the Trust, through our audiences being happy and giving generously in the departing collections.”
Welcome support
Claire Poynter, for the Trust, said,
“To get the support of the Newchurch Male Voice Choir is such a fillip to our cause. We look forward to their concerts and their help in spreading the word about Strokes and their prevention.”
The choir’s concert dates will be published on the Website and Facebook pages.
