Newclose: Cricket Scoreboard ArrivesWhen you’re driving in to Newport from the south of the Island along the Blackwater Road, you will have seen the new cricket club taking form over the last year, or so.

If you’re not in the know, it’s called Newclose.

It’s clearly a big job creating the Isle of Wight county cricket ground from scratch, but that’s what Brian Gardener, the man behind it and President of Ventnor CC, has taken on. A noble gesture indeed.

Scoreboard
The pitch has been sprouting new good, green grass for quite a while now, but it looks like the latest addition is the Cricket scoreboard.

Great to see the new cricket ground steadily coming along.

Open to all Island clubs
Once complete, the grounds are going to be made available for all Island cricket to use, all the way down to the under nine and under 11 nippers.

What a great gesture to IOW cricket from Brian, I think this will be one of the Islands biggest leaps forward in it’s recent or present history, and one man is responsible. Well done nipper

Looks like a nice ground – top marks, but when batting towards the road, surely (if hit well enough) the cricket ball could clear the fence and have ‘some fun’ with on coming traffic!

We took the opportunity to visit the new ground on the recent open day, what a fantastic ground and pavillion! Well done to all concerned especially Brian. We look forward to spending many sunny summer weekends at the venue watching great cricket.
