Thanks to Ben from the Hospice for reminding us about this event taking place at the weekend. In his own words. Ed
The Earl Mountbatten Hospice is delighted to announce the return of the magnificent Newfoundland Rescue Dogs of The Newfound Friends.
This is the forth year that the ‘Newfies’ will be plucking fundraisers from the River Medina and pulling them safely to shore.
This is a fantastic opportunity to meet these ‘St Bernard’s of the Sea’, and everyone is welcome to come along and watch, take photos and even cast yourself adrift and be rescued!
Sunday from 11am
The Newfound Friends will be pitching up at The Folly Inn, Whippingham this Sunday 12th August, from 11am. We’ve still got places available to take part in this unique event, plus we’ve got some spare wetsuits so there’s no excuse not to get involved!
To get rescued costs £30, this includes going out on the boat with the dogs, before being ‘cast adrift’ and waiting as the Newfies dive dramatically from the boat and pull you to safety. All participants will also receive a certificate with their rescue dog.
Book or turn up
All you need to do to take part is either call the Hospice Fundraising Office on (01983) 528989, or simply turn up on the day from 11am and speak to a hospice representative.
The Folly Inn will be open as normal, and there will be a massive raffle taking place throughout the day.
All participants must be 16 years old and over and be proficient swimmers, we will supply all participants with a wetsuit and life jacket, please feel free to bring your own wetsuit, and don’t forget your towel and a camera.
