Victoria Recreation Field protected against development

On Saturday 4th August the Association dedicated the Victoria Recreation Field, East Cowes, as a Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Field.

The dedication is a protection of the field against development in perpetuity.

The dedication of the field was carried out initially with prayers of dedication by the Rev. Kenneth Robinson from St. James’ Church, Diana Wiles of East Cowes Methodist Church and Father Brian Cougan of St David’s Church.

The prayers of dedication were followed by an address given by County Councillor Edward Giles, who had researched the aims and responsibility of the Playing Fields Association and praised their involvement in the community.

A commemorative plaque has been provided to designate the field as a QEII Field, this was unveiled by the Mayor of East Cowes, Councillor Jane Rann, who praised the Playing Fields Association for their efforts on behalf of the local community.

The ceremony was attended by Andrew Turner MP., County Councillor Margaret Webster, members of East Cowes Town Council and other local dignitaries.
