Newport ‘Day of Christmas’ and Light Switch On this weekend

Not long now until the Newport ‘Day of Christmas’ and Light Switch On taking place between 10am-6pm this Saturday (19th November).

The event this year organised by Newport and Carisbrooke Community Council with Market Days CIC and Skates, this year will be even bigger with more family activities, markets and food stalls on The Quay, St Thomas’s Square and St James’ Square.

The special circus-themed light switch on this year will start at 5.50pm and promises to be spectacular!

Green: It really is something you wouldn’t have seen on the Island before
One of those performing at the light switch on is Chanique Green from Classique Dance Studios. Chanique said,

“This is something not to be missed! So much hard work from everyone, especially the youth superstars in the making has come together to produce something truly spectacular and jaw dropping.

“It really is something you wouldn’t have seen on the Island before and for free, at such a magical time of year!”

Paddock: Myself and my dancers are extremely excited to perform
Jaydene Paddock (pictured below) from Jaydene Lee Arts, also performing said,

“Myself and my dancers are extremely excited to perform for this year’s Newport light switch on.

“It’s been a pleasure working with the talented groups and individuals from the Island!

“Everyone has put in so much hard work and seeing it all come together at rehearsals it’s not to be missed!”

Ahead of the switch on
Red Funnel Award-winning businesses Funky Pineapple Events and Sweet Charlies will be among those along the Quay where there will be a circus workshop between 1-3pm, fairground rides and snow globe.

There will be characters appearing between 4-5pm in St James Square and at 5pm the amazing AJ Party Entertainment will warm up the crowd ahead of the switch on.

The ice rink and roller skating are fully booked but the last few spaces on the three historical Newport walks can be booked through the Website.

Free grotto
The free grotto will be between 12-2pm in the former Topshop building where Father Christmas, his wife Mrs Christmas and an elf want you to come along visit their forest!

The day will also see the launch of the Newport Business Association window spotting competition and forms can be collected from participating shops displaying a poster with prizes to be won.
