Newport man charged with New Year’s Day thefts

A man has been charged with stealing hundreds of pounds worth of goods on the Isle of Wight.

The 40-year-old man, of Holyrood Street in Newport, has been charged with the following:

  • Theft of £385.34 worth of goods from Sainsbury’s in Newport on 1st January this year.
  • Theft of £316 worth of goods from Morrison’s in Newport on 1st January this year.
  • Common assault against a man in his 30s in Town Lane, Newport, on 1st January this year.

The man was remanded in custody to appear at Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court today (2nd January).
