NFU Mutual’s Isle of Wight Office has nominated Haylands Farm to receive a donation of £7,899 from the insurer’s national £2.33 million Agency Giving Fund.
The contribution will support a key project to build accessible pathways, allowing wheelchair users to experience and help care for animals on the farm.
Supporting learning and inclusion
Now approaching its 50th year, Haylands Farm provides a vital work-based environment for adults with learning disabilities.
Situated on the outskirts of Ryde, the self-sustaining farm is supported by Isle of Wight Mencap, with funding generated locally. It offers training in farming, carpentry, horticulture and essential life skills.

Enabling access for all
Manager of Haylands Farm, Nichola Cook, said,
“We’re so grateful to the Isle of Wight office of NFU Mutual for nominating our charity to receive a donation from the NFU Mutual Agency Giving Fund.
“The money has gone a long way to helping us and to further develop our project.
“Providing access to areas of the farm is essential for those who are in wheelchairs who wish to participate in looking after the animals.”
Recognising local impact
John Heather, Senior Agent at NFU Mutual New Forest, Isle of Wight and Bournemouth, said:
“Haylands Farm is a much-loved part of the island’s community and we are delighted to be able to support them in their 50th year.
“Although well known, few are aware of the range of activities and the extent of support that they provide to those with learning difficulties.
“We are so pleased that through NFU Mutual’s Agency Giving Fund we can support their project to improve accessibility for those in wheelchairs and help to highlight the amazing work they do.”
Part of a nationwide effort
The £7,899 donation is one of many made through NFU Mutual’s Agency Giving Fund, which totals £2.33 million nationally.
Now in its sixth year, the fund helps local charities across the UK as part of NFU Mutual’s wider £4 million funding pledge for 2025 to support frontline services in rural communities.
Each of the insurer’s 280 local offices had the opportunity to nominate a charity to receive a share of the fund, ensuring support reaches organisations working at the heart of their communities.
