News broke last week about the Isle of Wight Conservative MP, Andrew Turner‘s former partner having an affair with his transport advisor and close friend, Nicholas Finney.
Previously a very close supporter of the MP – and this continues even after the news of the affair broke – he is now living with Carole Dennett.
The words below come from an exchange OnTheWight had with Nick, where he responds to the allegations levelled against him by chairman of the Isle of Wight Conservative Association, Alan Wells.
“These are personal matters. Deeply personal, and you know that Andrew Turner’s opponents are trying every possible way to harm him. It is typical of their on-going obsessive behaviour that they should leak letters to the press on matters which as you say you would not normally publish.
“My own circumstances were so deeply unhappy that a divorce was inevitable long before a relationship with Carole developed. That divorce is now well underway.
“I am now living with Carole away from my family home and Carole has moved out of Seal House.”
He goes on to say,
“I saw Andew and Carole’s relationship dreadfully damaged by Alan Wells and David Pugh’s vitriolic campaign over a long period of time, such that it was almost intolerable for Carole. She had made it clear that she could not cope with the attacks on them with so much venom attached and she felt that it was never ending.
“People need to remember that Carole and Andrew’s relationship extends over 23 years, long before he became the MP for the Island and that Carole cared for Andrew through his severe stroke and afterwards. That care and concern is still there whatever cynical and dismissive attitudes are taken by others.”
Mr Finney finished by asserting his continued support for the Conservative MP in the 2015 election campaign,
“I still remain a supporter of Andrew and I believe that both Carole and myself will continue, albeit in a different manner to help Andrew to win the seat for the Conservatives.
“I am sorry that my relationship with Carole is being used to try to harm Andrew, not least because he is a thoroughly decent MP who serves the Island very well and is widely respected.
“People will of course make their own judgements but our relationships are still being worked through. However this has absolutely no bearing on the effectiveness of Andrew and his eminent suitability to stand as the MP for the Island.”
