Thanks to Deborah for this update on the progress of Bonchurch athlete Nick Percy. Ed
After the buzz of The Commonwealth selection, Nick continues his hard winter training without his discus coach, as illness has struck again.
It is now been over two months since he has had a full session with his coach. Luckily all other aspects of his training are in place, however this is still not ideal.
We made the decision for Nick to fly to Jersey to train with Zane Duquemin over the half term, which he felt helpful.
Joint u20 Athlete of the Year
This month also brought an award from Scottish athletics. Nick became a joint winner, along with middle distance star Jake Wightman for the under 20 Athlete of the Year.
He was so thrilled to win the title again… It isn’t often that field eventers are nominated, let alone win this award … so a very happy lad!
Whilst up in Glasgow, Nick also attended IFAC (International Festival of Athletics Coaching) which Scotland have successfully organised in the last few years, and he attended presentations made by Icelander Vésteinn Hafsteinsson, who was Gerd Kanter’s coach until recent times.
This also allowed an opportunity of an audience with Vésteinn, and much was learned from this inspirational character.
