It’s now been nine days since News OnTheWight asked the Isle of Wight Conservative MP, Bob Seely, to answer two yes/no questions about Boris Johnson and the Police having found he broke the law.
This is a matter that remains at the forefront of a lot of people’s minds in the country.
“Looking forward to providing his comments”
On Tuesday last week the MP’s office told News OnTheWight that Bob “was looking forward to providing his comments when he returns”. He was in Ukraine at the time.
Despite chasing twice, there is still no response to our questions, but today (Thursday) a member of Bob’s office told News OnTheWight that “Bob intends to provide a statement today”.
Issuing a statement is not answering questions. A statement can, in effect, be answering questions of his choosing.
Disillusioned residents
After Bob implied on Radio 4 that not many Islanders had written to him about Boris Johnson, there was a flood of comments from News OnTheWight followers on social media, sharing their stories about not receiving responses to emails sent to the MP’s office.
Some said it had left them wondering whether it was worth writing to him any more.
Problem with emails to MP?
One News OnTheWight reader told us that he’d written to Bob last week about the PM and not only had he not received a response, but also had not received the usual acknowledgement to his email.
He told News OnTheWight,
“This could be rather telling in light of Bob’s comments this week about having more emails about animal rights issues than emails about the PM!”
Simple questions
The questions News OnTheWight had asked were:
- Now that Boris Johnson has been fined by the police for attending a party/parties in lockdown, do you think he should resign?
- Are you concerned that Boris Johnson has previously said that all of the guidelines were followed, where the fines from the police prove this not to be the case?
Did PM ‘deliver the mother of all apologies’?
Following Prime Minister’s Question Time on Wednesday, we added a third question:
- Did Boris Johnson ‘deliver the mother of all apologies’?
We’ll update with Bob’s statement once we receive it.
Privileges Committee
A Commons motion on referring the Prime Minister’s conduct to the Commons Privileges Committee will be heard later today.
An amendment to delay the vote until after the completion of the Met Police and Sue Gray investigations was scrapped at the eleventh hour.
On Tuesday Bob told BBCR4 that he didn’t know how he was going to vote today.
