Nine Year Old Plans Library Sleep-In

First News, a weekly national newspaper aimed at children aged between seven and 14, is reporting the story of a very plucky young nine year old.

According to the publication, Jessica Trueman from Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire, is planning a ‘sleep in’ at her local library in protest against its closure.

Jessica said of the sleep-in, “I love my library and I am not letting you [David Cameron] and the council shut it down…I am really angry about this. If libraries close, where can we go to get books? Not everyone can afford to go and buy them. No one is listening to children’s views.

“Books are special. You can read amazing stories and learn about history and different places in the world. I use two libraries to help me with my homework and both are being shut down. I hope you understand that you are making a big mistake. I won’t let this drop so please sort it out.”

Lack of help from Government
Jessica is planning the action with her sister and friends, after being told David Cameron was “too busy to help” when she wrote to him about the proposed closure.

She didn’t give up there, then writing to Culture Secretary, Jeremy Hunt to appeal for his help.

He told her to write to her local council.

First News backs Jessica’s campaign
First News, which is available in one in four schools across the UK, have backed Jessica’s campaign and aim to help spread the word.

Jessica is keen for children around the country and to give the Government the same message “so that they have to listen.”
