Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary have confirmed to OnTheWight that there are no ongoing police investigations relating to the Isle of Wight Council matters.
Earlier this month, Reform UK Councillor Caroline Gladwin said she had formally reported Independent Socialist Councillor Geoff Brodie to the police. She described “sustained and unprovoked attacks” during two council meetings on 30th September and 1st October.
The force said the report had been closed after determining that no criminal offences had been committed.
Brodie: I cannot for the life of me conceive of what nonsense this is
Councillor Brodie emailed Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary on 14th October. He wrote,
“I am currently on holiday, returning on 22nd October.
“I have been advised by a friend that the IW media is reporting that a complaint has been made to the police about me by an IW Councillor Caroline Gladwin.
“If this is the case can you please confirm and advise me whether you are pursuing this complaint and on what charge?
“If there is indeed a charge I will report to Newport Police Station on the 23rd.
“I cannot for the life of me conceive of what nonsense this is.
“Thank you. Councillor Geoff Brodie.”
Police: No criminal offences have been committed
The following day, police responded,
“Dear Geoff,
“Thank you for contacting Hampshire Constabulary. I can see that some comments made during council business have been brought to police attention, however, it has been deemed not a matter for police as no criminal offences have been committed.
“The report has been closed. Enjoy your holiday.
“Kind regards, Contact Management, Hampshire Constabulary.”
