OnTheWight chatted to those who’ve watched the Coastguard and Navy Bomb disposal deal with this today. Below is what they told us.
The suspicious item was spotted last night in the rocks in front of the Spyglass (see the map below of the location). The height of the tide made it impossible to take a closer look at.
The West end of the beach was closed off for safety. Teams arrived in Ventnor earlier today to deal with it, but waited until the tide was low enough.
What was found was described to OnTheWight as ‘a bit like a drain cover’.
