Happily the Island Roads’ resurfacing on the major road into East Cowes has been completed, so it’s hoped that traffic in and out of the town and for the ferry will be running much smoother this week.
News OnTheWight noticed that there is an official notice, starting today, to close part of Old Road, East Cowes.
Just two-ways lights
WightFibre tell News OnTheWight rather closing the road as the official notice specifies, they will be, “operating under a 2 way traffic light system carrying out some of our work. Yes we are there at the moment and will be again tomorrow. This will only be for a couple of days and then the road will be fully open again.“
Old Road became _the_ road to and from the Red Funnel Car ferry during traffic-ageddon the town suffered last week.
The residents were incredibly concerned as the road is certainly not built for that kind of level or type of traffic. The road is so narrow in a lot of points that two lorries can’t even pass each other.
Holding off
WightFibre have made the decision to hold off the resurfacing of the road until after summer at the end of September.
The road has a Traffic Order on it starting today, closing the lower section of the road (between its junctions with Castle Street and Royal Architects Road). The notice allows it to be closed for two weeks, from 0800 hours from Monday 28th June 2021 until 2000 hours on Friday 9th July 2021 – but WightFibre says the two-way traffic lights will only be in place a few days.
