Sir Richard Branson

OMG Sir Richard Branson replied!

Yesterday (Wednesday) was the 25th anniversary of when Richard Branson (he hadn’t received his knighthood at that stage) ate at the Bahar Tandoori restaurant in Cowes and the iconic photo of him with the restaurant owner, Abdul, was taken.

News OnTheWight made the journey to Cowes last night to meet Abdul Bahar and hear his memories of the day Richard Branson ate in his restaurant.

Not really expecting a reply, News OnTheWight also wrote to Sir Richard last night to ask what his memories of the day were.

Branson: I remember fondly the wonderful meal I had
To our utter surprise, this lunchtime we received a reply. Our guess that he was in Cowes for the Whitbread Round the World sailing race was spot on, as Sir Richard, founder of the Virgin Group, explains,

“I remember fondly the wonderful meal I had at the Bahar Tandoori and how welcoming the restaurant and the Islanders were all those years ago when I was on the island for the Whitbread Around the World Race.”

Sir Richard also hinted that he may return one day,

“I’m delighted to see the curry house is still going strong – maybe I’ll be able to come back one day!”
