One trapped in Cowes road traffic collision

Police say one person was trapped due to a road traffic incident and has been transported to hospital after fire crews cut the roof of the vehicle away.

Police and ambulance crews were called to the scene shortly before 8am this morning, following reports of a vehicle crashing into a hedge at the junction of Place Road and Highfield Road, Cowes.

Three vehicles involved
Initial reports indicated only one vehicle was involved in the road traffic collision.

A spokesperson from Hampshire Constabulary, however, has confirmed that three vehicles were involved.

Taken to hospital
One person was freed from one of the vehicles and taken to St Mary’s Hospital by ambulance after the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service cut the roof of the vehicle away. It was initially feared two persons were trapped.

Place Road and Highfield Road have now re-opened to traffic after Highways arrived to help with clearing debris.
