Operators and Goodbye Stereo Announce Winners: ExclusiveBack in March, popular Island bands the Operators (pictured) and Goodbye Stereo announced via MySpace that they would be running a competition.

Three upcoming local bands would win the chance to perform at their co-headline show to be held in June.

One winner has already been revealed via the lads MySpace (see below), but the boys exclusively revealed the remaining two winners to us here at VentnorBlog.

And the winners are ….
We are pleased to announce on behalf of The Operators and Goodbye Stereo the other winners performing on the night are:

Bright As Vegas as chosen by the Operators and Sundown City picked by Goodbye Stereo!

Well done to everyone involved, we’ll bring you more details of the June gig in due course.

In the meantime, if you had no idea the competition was running, read on for the low down.

What’s it all about?
First, a bit of background on the competition which had a few unique twists to it.

The hosts asked for all Island musicians under the age of twenty, playing in groups to submit one song from their MySpace profile. From this, after much scrutiny and debate, the lads chose a shortlist of ten bands which were:

Nearly New
Papa Do Plenty
Bright As Vegas
The Condition 4
Big Sam The One Man Band
Majortones
Sundown City
Insepia
The Getaway
Sickly hairs Three Body Problem

Public vote short list winners
From those shortlisted, The Operators were to pick one winner, Goodbye Stereo the other and the third band was down to the fans to vote for in an online poll lasting two weeks!

Ben Athey, drummer of the Operators explained the idea behind putting on the competition:

“We’ve grown up on the Island and always been in amongst the music scene. I always looked forward to the Wight Noize auditions because it never ceased to amaze me how much musical talent we have locally. We really wanted to see what people were doing and if the reputation is still there. And it is, massively.

“Making the shortlist of ten wasn’t easy, let alone then picking the two who we would be playing with on the night. The ten shortlisted are all really strong and I think we would all agree that they have made fans out of us.”

Nearly New Already Announced
The online vote winners Nearly New have already been announced on MySpace. In the fortnights poll over 3000 votes were received and over 1000 of those were for Nearly New.

Congratulations too all the bands involved! The hosts would like to personally thank all the bands that entered for giving them the opportunity to listen to new music created on the Isle of Wight.

More details of the event will be announced nearer the time so until then check out the bands MySpace pages!
