Following their rip-roaringly successful Diamond Jubilee Concert, the Isle of Wight Symphony Orchestra are performing another entertaining concert suitable for all the family to take place at Medina Theatre this Saturday 7th July at 7.30.
Children’s Overture
The concert will open with an overture composed by Roger Quilter entitled “Children’s Overture”. It Incorporates a number of well known nursery rhymes that no matter what your age will bring back happy memories – will you be able to name them all?
The concert then continues with three orchestral episodes from Humperdink’s “Hansel and Gretel”. This will include the “Witches Ride” and “Gingerbread Waltz”. The first half will conclude with the delightful “Petite Suite de Concert” by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor – a composer close to the conductor’s heart as they share the home town of Croydon!
Humorous English dances
In the second half there will be a set of vivacious and humorous English dances by Malcolm Arnold, followed by the well known Strauss Waltz “Roses from the South”, and finishing with the exciting ballet score for “Billy the Kid” by Copeland.
This will truly be a concert of good, fun, melodious music suitable for all ages! Tickets (Adults £13.50 / Students £6) are available from the Medina Theatre Box Office (tel: 01983 527020).
