A painting that hung in Queen Victoria’s dressing room until her 1901 death has been bought at auction and returned to Osborne House.
The canny Queen bought the painting – La Siesta by the German artist Franz Xaver Winterhalter – in 1841 for £200, which has now risen to its present day £73,250 auction price.
It’s hanging in the drawing room of Osborne House for the while, giving visitors a chance to see it up close.
