Overnight resurfacing at Apse Heath, Lake and Sandown

Gavin shares this latest from Island Roads, Ed

The latest work, on the section between the Morrisons roundabout and near to the Alverstone Road/ Ventnor Road junction just ease of Apse Heath roundabout, will be undertaken at night between the hours of 7.30pm and 6.00am in order to reduce inconvenience. Work will also not be carried out at weekends which will further reduce disruption.

Carried out in sections
The project, which is due to begin towards the end of the month and last eight nights, will also be done in sections to further minimise inconvenience.

During periods of work, the road will be closed with signed diversions put in place. Pedestrian access will remain.

Further work
Later in the year the adjoining stretch from the Morrisons roundabout to the Merrie Gardens roundabout will also be resurfaced. That will mean a 2.6km section between Apse Heath roundabout and this busy junction will have been improved this year as well as both the Apse Heath and Morrisons roundabouts.

Project manager Derek Benfield said:

“This is another example of a major section of road being improved by crews working overnight in order to reduce disruption to road users. Throughout the year, we have had two crews working overnight on schemes across the Island to improve the major strategic routes as well as two crews working during the day to improve roads that are less busy.

“We accept that schemes of this nature will inevitably cause some inconvenience and, once again, we thank residents and businesses in advance for their co-operation during this forthcoming work.

“This year there has been some intensive activity in the Apse Heath, Sandown and Lake areas and we hope that road users will have noticed the improvements we have delivered.”
