Four local authors, specialising in various genres, are set to give an informative discussion panel about the publishing and writing industry, entitled Pages, Plots and Publishing. Anna Britton, Katie Daysh, Mary Grand, and Kathryn Rossati will talk about their diverse experiences, from self-publishing to the more ‘traditional’ routes.
The publishing industry can be bewildering and intimidating, often full of pitfalls, and there is sometimes conflicting advice on how to navigate it. This panel, aimed at every level of writer, will give guidance and tips. All the authors have had books published, in a multitude of ways, and know of some of the dangers, but also the pleasures, of the industry.
Anna Britton
Anna Britton is the author of Shot in the Dark and Close to the Edge, part of her traditionally published crime series starring Gabe Martin and Juliet Stern.
She also self-publishes under the name Annie Bennet, focusing on cosy romance and fantasy.
Katie Daysh
Katie Daysh is an author of queer historical fiction, focusing on the 19th century Royal Navy. Her Age of Sail series follows the lives and careers of Hiram Nightingale and Arthur Courtney.
The first book, Leeward, was a Times Historical Novel of the Year 2023 and was shortlisted for the 2024 HWA Debut Crown Awards.
Mary Grand
Mary Grand is a bestselling author of murder mysteries set in the present time but in the style of classic whodunnits. These are set on the Isle of Wight where she lives and writes.

Mary’s writing career started with three self-published novels starting with Free to be Tegan.

Kathryn Rossati
Kathryn Rossati is a poet and author of young adult and children’s books, including her latest release, Naturally Nic/k, out through the independent publisher Book Guild.
She is neurodivergent and lives on the Isle of Wight where she can be found daydreaming or receiving ‘constructive’ criticism from her boisterous parrot and chatterbox budgie.
Where and when
The panel will take place at Medina Bookshop in Cowes on Monday 7th July from 7pm.
Tickets are £5 and can be purchased via the website.
