Pancakes Are Not Just For Tossers

Shrove Tuesday is next week the 28th February. It is a time for indulgence before the spiritual detox period of Lent.

pancakesIn Ventnor it will be celebrated in a very English way, with sober services, trying very much not to get like those foreign chappies, who shout with joy and wear coloured clothes at mardi gra. I know many of you are not pew warmers. I can’t blame you, because it’s all very very mysterious, but this period of Lent, in preparation for the spring festival can be enjoyable and beneficial for all.

Try smiling at people you don’t know and apologising for arguments you were only half to blame for. It really gives you the wonderful moral high-ground (and pisses off people who can’t work out what is going on, if that gives you a buzz). Get up before lunchtime. Try to be the first to put footprints on the new sand in the morning – breath in the good Ventnor sea air.

So make some pancakes, dig up those New Year resolutions that have slipped down the back of the sofa, and get ready for spring.

If no one is looking you can even hug a rare tree down the Botanics.

Remember, pancakes are not just for tossers.
