Pappa Clip: Travellers

Friday spoof from the London Midday Melange. Submitted by Pappa Clip. Ed

Lord Horty of Roylesheer got up in the House Of Lords today to propose a possible solution to the Traveller problem.

“We should ship them all to the Isle of Wight,” he said. “For those unaware of it, the Island is quite large and offers plenty of room for those who feel the need to mooch from place to place.

“Apparently none of these wanderers feel the need to travel any great distance between their halts – some might suggest just enough to leave their litter behind them – so the Island, containing as it does a web of roads and lanes, should prove ideal.

“Adopting this scheme would therefore offers two advantages. One, our splendid English countryside will be left in peace and free of litter, wrecked cars, old tyres, etcetera.

“And two, the unemployed of which there seems to be an irreducible amount on the Island, will find increased chances for gainful employment.”

How do we find this island?
Rising to thank the noble Lord for his useful contribution, the Government spokespersonman took the opportunity to inform Members that the whereabouts of said Island could be located, by referring to the large map of the United Kingdom displayed in the Member’s Reading Room.

“I’m sure one of the stewards will be able to point it out to Members,” he added.

Off topic perhaps, but considering the Island is promoted as a ‘Cycling Island’, I often think as regards the state of… Read more »
