How many times have you gone to St Mary’s hospital in Newport as a patient, or taking someone for treatment, and found it hard to park?
We’ve heard of a few occasions where people are either been made late for their appointments, or in some cases, missed their appointment completely, as they couldn’t find parking.
When this occurs, it’s not only unfortunate for those who miss their appointments, but it’s wasting the valuable resources of the NHS.
Have your say
The Island’s NHS and groups like the Isle of Wight LINk are aware of this and in order to find out what Islander’s experiences have been, have designed a questionnaire (PDF, or Word doc) to, for a limited period, get your views.
OK – frankly it isn’t the most friendly document and initially it looks long, but if you don’t work for the NHS, only about half the questions are intended for you anyway.
If you want change …
It’s worth filling in because if you don’t, your experiences – good or bad – aren’t going to be officially noticed. If you want change, that can’t be good.
Happily they say, “if you want to respond to just one or two sections please do so.” That said, the more information you can give, the more complete the picture.
Fill in the form
It’s the kind of thing that you could print out at work and fill in during your lunch hour – then it’s done.
If you have a relative – elderly or otherwise – that isn’t a computer user, but has to use St Mary’s, you can print it out for them, and spend a little time them filling the form out. All of the bank holidays coming up would be a perfect opportunity.
Background on it
The questionnaire is straight-forward enough that you could just go and fill it in, but if you’re looking for background on the questions it makes sense for you to have a read of the document that they’ve especially prepared. We’ve embedded it below.
Those behind the consultation say that a balance has to be struck between:
- Ensuring that patients, visitors and staff have access to the St. Mary’s Hospital site;
- Managing the limited parking space available – even if that is expanded
- Promoting healthy and active modes of transport; and
- Meeting our commitments to reduce the carbon footprint of the NHS
