Members of the Isle of Wight council Planning Committee voted this week to reject a planning application to develop a piece of land on Place Road, between Cowes and Gurnard, and create 86 new dwellings.
Almost 500 residents lodged their opposition to the application during the public consultation and last week, as reported through OnTheWight, over 100 residents turned out to peacefully demonstrate during the committee’s site visit.
Rejected by five votes
The application was a revised plan, showing a reduction from the original 99 homes proposed. Five councillors voted to reject the application, one voted in favour and one abstained.
It’s unclear whether Penwood Developments will lodge an appeal against the decision with the Planning Inspectorate.
