Permission being sought for terrace of five new town homes on site of former nightclub

A planning application for a terrace of five houses and parking, on the site of the former Zanies Nightclub, Sandown Esplanade has gone out to public consultation.

Permission was granted on 1st December 2017 for the five houses, but expired three years later, so this new permission seeks approval for the same application.

Presumption in favour of sustainable development
The agent for the applicant, Andrew White, argues that since consideration of the previous identical scheme, as the council’s Island Plan is no longer in existence, the application should be approved, applying the ‘tilted balance’.

He goes on to add that the presumption in favour of sustainable development provides even greater justification and support for this resubmitted scheme.
