Candidate statement of Peter REDDING DMS JP.
I am 51 years old. I have been happily married for 30 years, and have two grown-up children. My wife and I own and run Marina Apartments holiday accommodation on Ventnor seafront, (within the ward).
To me, this position is the opportunity to take forward the views of local people to ensure our ward is properly represented.
My personal views are not of importance, as it would be the opinions and voice of Ventnor west ward electorate, which I would be charged with putting forward.
I am not a maverick, my interest is in the controlled development and success of Ventnor. This includes local enjoyment, business, tourism and development (albeit controlled and sympathetic on the latter). I see this position as no different to a senior management position within a company, you represent the whole not just your personal interests.
Since coming to Ventnor, I have been a pro-active Chairman of the Ventnor Beach Safety Group, until the I.O.W. Council’s acceptance of responsibility for our lifeguards this year. I am also an appointed Justice of the Peace (Magistrate) to the I.O.W. Bench. As a J.P. I am often put in the position of making judgments which will change a person’s life. I took the Judicial oath “to serve”¦without fear or favour, affection or goodwill”. This I also say to the people of Ventnor, should they elect me.
I can offer no guarantees to do any better than the next man, but I can promise to use my professional experience, proven ability and honesty, to work for you and Ventnor. I am truly independent of political and other business interests.
I do not have a vision of policies and magical way’s forward as new Councilor, these I leave to the Politicians’, unless this election is for the expected Prime Minister vacancy!!!
