Plans to restore Grand Hotel frontage to its former Art Deco glory withdrawn

Plans to demolish parts of the Grand Hotel, in Sandown and restore the frontage to its former Art Deco glory have been withdrawn.

It’s not clear what the reason for the application being withdrawn is, but there was great excitement from locals when the plans for the major facelift were revealed in January.

The hotel has stood empty for many years and has been the subject of arson attacks and vandalism.

The application
The planning application had received no objections and one letter of support.

An application for the demolition of four holiday apartments and outbuildings behind the hotel and construction of replacement holiday apartments was approved in February.
