OnTheWight speaks with geologist, Martin Simpson, to hear more about his and Dr Bruce Denness’s theory about what is happening geologically on the start of Newport Road, Ventnor, known locally as ‘the graben’.
As far back as the 1980s, the graben structure on Newport Road, Ventnor was thought to be the result of a geological fault opening up at the crest of the Ventnor landslide.
After 18 months of monitoring and research, Martin Simpson and Dr Bruce Denness have come forward with a new theory about what’s happening. The good news is that with the right funding, something can be done to avoid the repeated repairs that have to regularly take place.
